Permalink Structure
It’s Day 10 of the Marketing Guru Challenge and today I look at setting up a new Wordpress blog.
First thing I usually change when I set up a new Wordpress blog is to edit the Permalink Structure. Try not to use the default one because it is not very good for getting listed in search engines. Also I think it makes the URL look a bit ugly.
Open your Wordpress Admin panel, click on Settings and then Permalinks. Use the “Custom, specify below” structure. In the field you can enter either:
/%postname%/ or I use /%category%/%postname%.html
Some blogs you might need to enter /%index.php/%postname%/ – it just depends on your PHP settings.
You just need to try what works. To find out you just need to have a post up and then click on the title and call up your test post. If you are getting an error, then you need to try the other option above. If you are successfully redirected to the post on your blog then you have the right permalink structure.
Next post, I look at must have Wordpress plugins.
