It’s Day 19 of the Marketing Guru Challenge and today I look at another way to make money online this time by creating your own video product.

I have found video products very successful as most of the positive feedback has been about how much easier it is to follow it all on their screen.

Research, Research, Research!

Before you create your own video product, the first thing you need to do is research. There are a number of ways to find video products that should sell and one way to do this is by looking for current or common issues relating to our niche in Forums.

Forums are a great place to find out what problems are going on within your niche. For example, I will visit Forums and see what issues newbies are having and then do a Google search and see what competition for the product is out there. Then I visit YouTube just to see what free videos are available as we don’t want to be trying to sell something people can download for free.

Even if there are a few videos available for free, most are not bundled as a package. We can use this to entice visitors to buy our product by explaining how much time they can save having all the videos ready to go.

Creating Your Own Product;

One of the most common ways to create your own video product is by using a screen video capture program. There is a wonderful product called Camtasia which sells for $299 and is well worth the price but is probably a bit costly for most.

As we are trying to do this challenge for free all is not lost. CamStudio is a free open source screen capture program that is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files.

You can use CamStudio to create a series of videos and either sell them via a sales page or burn them to a DVD and sell them on eBay. Even if you do not wish to create and sell your own products, you could always create your own videos using CamStudio and use this as a means of gaining traffic to your sites.

Some ideas on using CamStudio to create your own products might be a Microsoft Excel video tutorial or maybe a PhotoShop help guide. If you have your own video camera you could even create your own DIY video tutorials on sewing or woodworking.

Here is how I got into creating my own videos,

Over the years I have set up hundreds of blog sites using cPanel, Fantastico and know a bit about FTP. Being a member of a few different blogging forums, I was seeing so many posts from newbies asking for help on how to set up a new blog site. Most were willing to pay for it!

Here is what used to happen. I would have messaged the person who required the work and put a bid in for this job. Most of the time it was just for a Wordpress install, but a day or two later is when the real fun began. I would get a message from them saying thanks for the setup but can you just install this template or these plugins please, then another day or so, more emails asking for something else.

At first I was quite happy to do this as I was trying to build up a good name, but after a while 2 hours work for $10 was just not worth it. Therefore I decided to create my own video product, show them how to do it all themselves and charge $10.

All I did was message the person who required the work, explain to them that I have a small video course that they can purchase for the same price as an installation. I then added the sales pitch,

“Not only will you be able to set up your own blog sites and install the plugins yourself, but once you watch the videos a few times you will be able to setup blogs for your friends (you Superstar) or even get paid and make money online installing blogs for others!”

I would then add “But wait there’s more!
Purchase now and I will include a bonus video on How to setup dozens of blog sites for FREE using sub-directories or sub-domains!”

or some crap like that.

I sold 5 copies the first week! It originally took me 2 hours to create the videos, so $50 for 2 hours works in the first week was fine with me. Creating your own video products is not hard and it is possible to achieve this using free video tools.

Here is a very basic video I created using CamStudio.

If you would like to find out more about creating your own videos or how to add some great effects to your videos for free, we will have some more video blogging tips coming up after the Marketing Guru Challenge is over.
