Blog Comments and Forums
Its Day 12 of the Marketing Guru Challenge and today I look at other ways to get not only free traffic to your blog but also backlinks which helps with Google’s page rank.
Blog Comments
An easy way to get free traffic and backlinks to your blog is by reading other people’s blog posts and leaving a blog comment.
Try to start a discussion with the blog owner or post your opinion about their post in the comment. Your comments should be of value, don’t write “hey, great post”.
Which blogs should I comment on?
You need to find blogs that are related to your own blog or niche! I have seen a few posts lately that say, just search Google for do follow blogs. Some say do-follow but actually weren’t and doing that might actually hurt your rankings if you have 1000’s of links from non-realted sites.
How do I know if a blog is do follow?
I use a Firefox addon called NoDoFollow. This addon highlights links and color codes them according to follow/nofollow. It looks pretty weird at first but I only use it while I am dropping ECs and leaving blog comments. You can easily turn it on or off by right clicking anywhere in your browser and un-ticking NoDoFollow.
Try to comment on at least 5 blogs a day and comment on hundreds of different blogs. This way you’ll build up traffic and baclinks on a regular basis.
Forums
Forums are a great place to meet other people and to get traffic to your blog or signup pages. The secret is to come across as an authority. You need to help others and you need to contribute to the forum so that people start to respect you.
The more posts you make the more traffic you’ll get. A certain percentage of the forum members will click your signature link and either visit your blog or sign up to your list. The more interesting your signature line is, the more people will click on it. You should test different signatures and see how they convert.
Forum marketing is a long term strategy and shows its real potential after doing it for several months. I suggest you use at least 3 different forums.
You can find forums in your niche by doing a Google search but you need to have a look at the number of registered members and how active the forum actually is.
